Preference center setup w/out subscription groups?
Hi lbrine ! You are spot on with all your questions:
- Yes, you'd need to create at least 1 Sub Group before using the Preference Center
- Yes, you'd have to include the Subscription Group filter for all Campaigns/Canvases moving forward...
- But we think it's worth it to avoid the bot-clicks leading to mass unsubscribes.
Please let us know if you have any questions! We plan to share a helpful resource shortly.
Thanks for the reply. That's exactly why we don't want to use the 1-click unsub (accidental + bot clicks). Do many/any customers actually that custom pref center but with only 1 sub group?
The other approach we've been discussing (and recommended by our onboarding team) is using the pref center API where the HTML would need to be passed in the API call from our side to Braze; definitely clunky/not ideal but a better user experience than a preference center with several radio buttons/options but for only 1 email category.

@Ibrine I'm encountering the exact same issue right now!
Have you found a solution yet?
AllanHeoFNMwould that mean that I'd need to edit EVERY single live email campaign/canvas to include the new subscription group in it? 🤕
Also I'm assuming you'll need to run some kind of Webhook or Canvas with User Update Step to opt in ALL your users in this new subscription group which is basically your general subscription group?- AllanHeoFNM3 months agoVisionary
Yup... you are correct for both questions..! 😠But particularly for your first question, yes, you'd have to backfill every live Campaign/Canvas with this new filter.

lbrineJust seeing this! Apologies for the late reply!
I HAVE seen customers use a pref center with just 1 sub group. All of them were experiencing the exct same issue as you and needed a solution to use the Email Preference Center without digging deep into their Sub Group strategy.
As long as you're avoiding the one-click unsub link, that should solve our issue. So yes, if that means a custom HTML page where the user still needs to click to unsub, but is faced with a better UI, that would work also!
